{U-Shaped Staircases: Perfect for Grand Spaces

U-shaped stairway designs consist of two identical flights joined by a half-turn landing and a middle landing. This style is often found in spacious homes or commercial spaces with plentiful upward room. This option is remarkably efficient, making it a useful choice for spacious spaces. While they are practical, they can be more challenging to climb, especially for those with mobility issues. Bifurcated stairs are recognised for their impressive and striking design, making them perfect for entryways. Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'

Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.

Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.

The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
